How do you keep your peace when hard times come your way? This is a great question. It’s the one thing that I struggle with the most and have to practice EVERY SINGLE DAY. It is super hard to keep calm in hard times, but it’s an absolute must if you want to live a peaceful life.
Forrest Gump was right when he became famous in the movie with the slogan “$h!t happens” because it does. That’s all there is to it. Wonder what that smiley face means above the phrase? Well, if you think about it, putting on a happy face when you are going through a hard time will help you be at peace when the $h!t that happens.
Your attitude is the only thing you can actually control. If your attitude is out of whack then you are not at peace. You are FAR from it. My dad always told me this quote by Zig Ziegler, “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine you altitude.” By the way, love my dad for giving me such great advice!
So, how do you keep your attitude positive? It’s not easy, my friends, it’s not easy at all, but you have to reach down in your soul and remember that you are in control of your attitude. You don’t have to get mad over that person that cut you off on the interstate. You don’t have to get mad when you are in a long line at the grocery store. You don’t have to be mad when lock yourself out of the house. Just grin and bear it. Try to laugh at yourself other than beat yourself up for doing something silly. It’s OKAY to do silly things once-in-a-while. We are human! We are not meant to be perfect!
I’m not saying that we should walk around without a care in the world, but I am saying that when you mess up just brush it off and focus on what you can do to correct it or focus on the good of the situation. We must be prepared to be successful and expect the best, but when it isn’t don’t let it destroy you.
Take a deep breath. Give yourself room to be human. Keep your peace.
